5th European Conference on Genetic Programming

Introduction

Genetic programming uses the principles of Darwinian evolution to automatically generate computer programs. It is gradually becoming established as an effective approach for difficult design, pattern recognition and control problems, and has been successfully applied in areas as diverse as financial data mining, signal and image processing, bio-informatics, engineering design, music and art.

EuroGP is Europe's premier conference devoted entirely to genetic programming. It regularly attracts around 125 registrants from all over the world, including many of the leading names in the field. Typically about 30-35 submitted papers are published in the conference proceedings (part of the Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science series). The standard is high with approximately 40% of paper submissions accepted as plenary, oral presentations and a smaller percentage of papers accepted as poster presentations. All accepted papers are published in full in the proceedings.

EuroGP conferences are always rewarding and enjoyable, presenting the very latest in theoretical and applied research, and providing a relaxed and friendly forum in which to exchange ideas and experiences.

EuroGP2002 will be held in the historic town of Kinsale, in the southwest of Ireland, with its pretty streets and natural harbour. Following the success of last year's conference, the programme will again include a lively conference debate, along with two invited talks in areas of interest to conference delegates, and a tutorial given by one of the leading practitioners in GP.
