EuroGP2001 debate

The EuroGP2001 debate opened with four five-minute statements from Nic McPhee (University of Minnesota, Morris), Conor Ryan (University of Limerick), Marco Tomassini (University of Lausanne) and James Foster (University of Idaho), before being opened up to the audience. The discussion ranged across a host of topics of interest to the genetic programming community - from the benefits of learning from biologists, and the importance of incorporating problem knowledge, to need for research into new operators and representations, and for increased academic rigour. An edited transcript of some of the highlights is provided below:
