Flights

The nearest airport is Stansted <http://www.baa.co.uk/main/airports/stansted/> (approx 50 km), with an hourly coach service between Stansted Airport and Colchester (including the University of Essex). See <http://www.gobycoach.com/> for full timetables.

Flying into Stansted Airport is highly recommended over London's other main airports of Gatwick or Heathrow. There are regular coach connections between Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow airports with the Jetlink 797 service but the journey can take several hours (see <http://www.gobycoach.com/> for timetables). It is probably quicker to travel into central London (via fast Gatwick Express and Heathrow Express services), and then London Underground to Liverpool Street train station where you can take the train to Colchester, however this journey will take at least two hours.

If arriving at London Heathrow Airport, take the "tube" (the London underground transport http://www.thetube.com/) to Liverpool Street station. Follow the Piccadilly Line signs and get on any train going to COCKFOSTERS or ARNOS GROVE or OAKWOOD or HAMMERSMITH or KINGS CROSS ST PANCRAS. You must change at Hammersmith station, and from there you go to the Hammersmith and City Line, where you should take any train going to ALDGATE EAST or WHITECHAPEL or BARKING or PLAISTOW or LIVERPOOL STREET . The journey will take about 1.15 hours and should cost approx 3.70. At Liverpool Street Station, trains leave hourly for Colchester (see above for timetable).

Below are the times and fairs for coaches from Stansted to Colchester.

Driving

If travelling by road, both the RAC <http://www.rac.co.uk/> and AA <http://www.theaa.com/> offer route planning services. Once in Colchester, follow the University of Essex signs, driving eastwards on the A133 towards Clacton, through a series of roundabouts until you turn right onto the university campus, clearly marked on roadsigns.
