Local
Information

EuroGP, EvoCOP and EvoWorkshops 2004 are co-located
in the historic town of Coimbra, in the center of Portugal. The
city is rich in history with one of the oldest universities in the
world, founded in 1290 by King Dinis. Many of the university buildings
are located on the hill above the town centre overlooking the Mondego
River. The medieval streets of the upper town are winding with ancient
alleys so expect to get a little lost at first but there is plenty
to see including the famous university tower and Baroque library
and Portugal's finest Romanesque church, the Sé Velha or
Old Cathedral. The Roman archeological site of Conimbriga is 15
km nearby.
What
to bring
Weather in April can be variable. The average
temperature ranges from 10-18 degrees but it can sometimes be rainy.
As Coimbra is a hilly town, comfortable walking shoes and an umbrella
would be sensible items to bring.
A selection of maps will be available at all the hotels listed on
the accommodation pages for your arrival, and will be available
at the registration desk along with local tourist information.
