Social Events

Guided Tours of the University:

A free guided tour of the old university (Universidade Velha) is available for accompanying persons (and conference delegates) during the following times:

Monday, 5 April at 11:20
Tuesday, 6 April at 16:30

The old university was once a royal palace and includes many beautiful buildings and a Baroque library. The tour takes about an hour and tickets are available on a first-come-first-served basis at the conference registration desk. Please note that tour numbers are strictly limited to 25 people.

Sunday night informal arrangements:

The local organisers offer suggestions for some meeting places in local restaurants and bars for those who want to meet up informally on Sunday evening before the conference starts. Please check here again for details before you leave for Portugal and information will be left in all the recommended hotels.

Conference Reception :

The town of Coimbra generously invites everyone attending euroGP-EvoCOP-EvoWorkshops and their guests to a reception to be held in the Salão Nobre da Câmara Municipal (Nobles' Room of the Town Hall) on Monday evening, 5 April at 19:30, hosted by the Major, Presidente Dr Carlos Encarnação.

Conference Dinner :

The Conference Dinner will take place at the former royal residence of São Marcos Palace on Tuesday evening, 6 April. Coaches will depart the conference venue at 18:00 for the 20-25 minute drive to the palace. The Grupo de Fados da Estudantina Universitária de Coimbra will perform Coimbra Fado music during the evening. Coaches will return to the main Coimbra hotels around 23:00. Your registration pack includes a dinner ticket and additional tickets are available from the conference registration desk. Please advise Jennifer Willies of any special dietary requirements.

Conimbriga Roman Ruins:

The Roman ruins of Conimbriga lie approximately 15km from Coimbra and with their fine mosaic floors, they are among the finest to be seen in the Iberian Peninsula. An optional visit to Conimbriga has been arranged for Wednesday afternoon, 7 April, after the conference closes The coach will depart from the lunch restaurant at 14:00. The ticket price is €19 per person and includes return coach travel to Conimbriga, entrance to the ruins and an English-speaking guide.
