Lausanne has played an important historic role on the route between the North Sea to the Mediterranean. The city is dominated by the 13th century Gothic cathedral and offers a marvellous panorama across Lake Geneva to the spa town of Evian and the Alps of Savoy.

The view stretches from the Dents-du-Midi at the eastern end of the lake to the south towards Mont-Blanc. Lausanne maintains its architectural and artistic heritage with cobbled roads, period houses, craftsmen's workshops and cosy pubs. Lausanne is also the Olympic World Capital, home to the Olympic Museum.
